The inventory of Mozart's bequest and the family correspondence provide an insight into Mozarts library. But, only very view copies of books which actually belonged to Mozart, are still extant.

To provide a direct insight into Mozart's reading, the Bibliotheca Mozartiana systematically acquires parallel copies of books which were once owned by Mozart (where ever possible, exact the same editions are acquired which were once owned by Mozart).

For the reconstruction, the catalog is used which was compiled by Martin Staehelin and Ulrich Konrad in the book Allzeit ein Buch: die Bibliothek Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts.
